For women who have lost their breasts due to cancer or other conditions, breast reconstruction is a physically and emotionally rewarding procedure. The creation of a new breast can dramatically improve your self-image, self-confidence and quality of life. The goal of breast reconstruction is to make you look and feel more comfortable and even in clothing. Several options exist to reconstruct a breast. For women who have undergone mastectomy to treat breast cancer, the Federal Women’s Health Care Act of 1998 mandates that insurance companies cover the costs of breast reconstruction as well as procedures required to lift or enhance the opposite breast to improve symmetry.
