Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is also commonly referred to as minimally invasive surgery, band aide surgery, keyhole surgery, or pinhole surgery.  Whatever name you choose, the critical element of laparoscopic surgery is the use of a fiberoptic rod lens system, which allows the surgeon to see into the abdomen or other areas of the body with 5 to 12 millimeter incisions.  Other small 5-millimeter incisions may be made to allow the surgeon to place specialized instruments into the area.  With these techniques our surgeons can often treat a problem area, take a biopsy, or even remove a diseased organ literally without putting his hand inside the body.  Since these techniques are often less invasive than traditional open procedures, patients often experience less post-operative pain and can get back to regular activities more quickly.

Laparoscopic surgery is a relatively new technique but all of the surgeons at Paris Surgical Specialists have had intensive training in this field.  Of course, there are still certain situations where an open surgical procedure is appropriate.   Only you and your surgeon can decide what is right for you.  At Paris Surgical Specialists we are proud to offer the equipment and expertise to make all of these options available to you and your family when and where you need them the most.
